Endoscopy

A Safe, Non-Invasive Diagnostic Tool

Endoscopy involves the use of an endoscope, a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light source. This device allows our veterinarians to visualize the inside of a pet’s body in real-time. Endoscopy can be used in various regions, including the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, and urinary tract, making it a versatile diagnostic tool

Endoscopy procedures are performed under general anesthesia to keep the pet comfortable and still. After the procedure, your pet is monitored by our staff as the anesthesia wears off. Aftercare instructions, including any necessary dietary adjustments or medications, are provided by the veterinarian.

Benefits of Endoscopy

  • Minimally Invasive: Endoscopy is less invasive than traditional surgery, meaning smaller incisions, less pain, and quicker recovery times for pets.
  • Real-Time Imaging: The ability to visualize internal structures in real time allows for immediate diagnosis and treatment decisions.
  • Biopsy Capability: The ability to take biopsies during an endoscopic examination allows for early detection of serious conditions, such as cancer, and helps guide appropriate treatment plans.
  • Reduced Risk: Compared to open surgery, endoscopy carries a lower risk of complications, such as infection or significant blood loss.
  • Foreign Object Removal: In many cases, endoscopy can be used to remove foreign objects without the need for surgery, reducing recovery time and risks associated with more invasive procedures.

Conditions Diagnosed with Endoscopy

Endoscopy can help diagnose a variety of conditions, including:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: ulcers, tumors, foreign bodies, and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Respiratory problems: chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and lung tumors.
  • Urinary tract conditions: bladder stones, tumors, and infections.
  • Joint issues: ligament injuries and cartilage damage.
